Doing More with Less:
Shelton library to offer second series of budget-wise programs

Following up on a popular series of programs presented this spring, the Shelton Timberland Library (William G. Reed Public Library) is offering a pair of new “Doing More with Less” presentations that are designed to help people stretch their household budgets while enjoying generous dividends in the form of healthful activity and recreation.

Plant Your Winter Garden—Now: Thursday, June 25, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
With solstice just behind us, it may be hard to envision planning and planting veggies for winter but Mason County Master Gardener John Moss will provide the know-how to make it real. He’ll discuss selecting seeds for the local area, using cold frames and season extenders, and practicing the best cultural techniques.

Travel on the Cheap: Tuesday, July 14, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
In spite of household budget constraints, or maybe because of them, taking a break and spending some time in a different setting can be a great way to rekindle your energy. Local travel expert Donna Wolden will share tips on getting the best travel deals, such as the best time to book a holiday trip, staying for less and getting the most out of limited travel dollars.

After each presentation, build on your new knowledge of budget travel and gardening and check out some library books and films on the topics. Do some research on the Internet as well: go to www.TRL.org and click on “Internet Resources,” then “Home, Garden, Cooking” or “Travel, Geography.” The lists of Web sites on these and other popular topics are selected by librarians who work throughout the Timberland Regional Library system and have subject-area expertise.

“Doing More with Less” is sponsored by the Friends of the Shelton Timberland Library. The library is located at 710 W Alder Street, Shelton. For more information, call (360) 426-1362.
