Winlock & Tenino libraries throw parties for author of “Little House” books

The Tenino and Winlock Timberland libraries will hold birthday celebrations honoring children’s author Laura Ingalls Wilder, born in February 1867, who penned a series of children’s books treasured by generations from the 1930s to today. The celebrations are for all ages.

Wilder wrote “Little House in the Big Woods” when she was 60 years old to save her father’s tales and share the story of growing up on the American frontier with its hardships and simple joys. That was the first of eight books that became the “Little House” series.

The Tenino Timberland Library party will be on Thursday, February 7 from, noon to 3 p.m. offering music, activities, a book discussion and refreshments. A group of Tenino home school families, who are partnering with the library for the event, will dress in period costume. Participants are invited to do the same. More information: (360) 264-2369.

The Winlock Timberland Library party will be on Saturday, February 9 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. offering a variety of crafts, snacks, and good old-fashioned fun. Participants can dress in “Little House” style costume if they like. The celebration is sponsored by the Friends of the Winlock Timberland Library. More information: (360) 785-3461.
