Poetry reading by Dr. Franz Schneider
Trees are archetypal forest of symbols

Dr. Franz Schneider, poet, author and Professor of English and Comparative Literature, will read poetry that celebrates the inspirational power of trees. The tree is presented as an archetypal icon in the sacred scriptures, art, poetry, dance and music of the world's civilizations. The public presentation will be held Thursday, February 7, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Aberdeen Timberland Library.

Dr. Schneider has published numerous poems, articles and papers and participates in a variety of community service organizations and projects. Schneider grew up in Germany and emigrated to the U.S. in 1951. He holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Washington. In 1967, he was appointed Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Gonzaga University, retiring in 1997 as a Professor Emeritus at Gonzaga.

The presentation is part of the library’s annual Winter Lecture Series, sponsored by the Friends of the Aberdeen Timberland Library. The final program in this year’s series will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2.
