Marine researcher John Calambokidis discusses work with Pacific whales

Marine research biologist John Calambokidis will talk about his long term research on blue, humpback and gray whales in the eastern North Pacific, including tracking their abundance, movements and underwater behavior. The presentation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 5 at the Olympia Timberland Library. Admission is free.

Calambokidis will include slides of photographs and video clips from his research. The area where much of the work takes place includes the waters off Central America, Mexico, the U.S. West Coast, and British Columbia.

Calambokidis is one of the founders of Cascadia Research, a non-profit scientific research organization formed in 1979 and based in Olympia. The group’s Web site is www.cascadiaresearch.org.
