Mountain Men and the Rendezvous
This Saturday: Living history program at Hoquiam library presents story of the fur trade
John Rhodes, a member of the local 7 Rivers Mountain Men, will give a talk on the fur trade of the early 1800s this Saturday, August 25, at 1 p.m. at the Hoquiam Timberland Library.
Costumed in historically accurate clothing and gear of a trapper, Rhodes presents glimpses into the lives of the mountain men who trapped and traded. He also describes rendezvous, the annual meeting of mountain men and fur buyers, where trappers would exchange beaver skins for supplies and goods.
The 7 Rivers Mountain Men is a living history and competitive shooting group. Rhodes is an expert shot with the muzzleloader.
The presentation is the second in a series of history talks scheduled by the library and is free of charge. It is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Hoquiam Timberland Library. The library is located at 420 7th Street, Hoquiam.
