Little trains that could & how they served Washington - Explored at free public talk

Author and speaker Linda Carlson will present "Speeders, Galloping Geese and Doodlebugs: Little Trains that Served the Northwest," a nostalgic view of local railway history, at a free public lecture on Saturday, October 6 at 1 p.m. at the Polson Museum in Hoquiam.

Well into the 1900s, many remote Washington communities depended on small, one-of-a-kind railways for the transportation of people, freight and mail. The presentation covers the economic reasons for these quaintly-named railroads, examples of the runs they made, and how these "Toonerville Trolleys," as they were dubbed, are remembered by those who rode them.

The Polson Museum is located at 1611 Riverside Avenue; Hoquiam, 98550.The lecture is a Humanities Washington Inquiring Mind presentation co-sponsored by the Friends of the Hoquiam Timberland Library, the Polson Museum and the Hoquiam Timberland Library.
