RESPECT: Girls get respect—and the book, too—at the library
Girls ages 12 to 14 and their mothers have an opportunity to explore respect—what it is and how to get it (and give it)—at home, at school and in their relationships. Brianne Probasco and Erin Schreiber, educators from the Grays Harbor County Public Health and Social Services Department, will facilitate a six-week discussion group each Wednesday from October 10 through November 14, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Aberdeen Timberland Library. (Date exception: the group will meet on Tuesday, October 30 instead of Wednesday, which is Halloween. See October schedule and November schedule.)
Each girl will receive a copy of the empowering book, "RESPECT: A Girl’s Guide to Getting Respect & Dealing When Your Line is Crossed" by Courtney Macavinta, as well as a journal and a tee shirt. In addition to discussions of the book, meetings will include activities and art projects. The program is free and there is no fee for supplies.
Requirements: Registration is required. Call one of the program facilitators at (360) 532-8631, extension 480 or 479, to register. Each girl must be accompanied during the meetings by her mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, mentor or other trusted female adult.
The library is located at 121 E Market Street, Aberdeen. For more information, people may call the library at (360) 533-2360 or call one of the program facilitators.
