Natural home winemaking explained at Winlock library presentation

Anine Grumbles will describe how to make fruit wines at home with a fuss-free process that uses no sulfites or toxic chemicals. The presentation will be held Tuesday, September 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Winlock Timberland Library, located at 322 1st Street, Winlock.

Ms Grumbles will give an overview of the fermentation process, information about necessary equipment and supplies, and a demonstration on how to proof yeasts for best results. Her book, Natural Winemaking at Home, co-written with Allyson Kirner, is available through Timberland libraries. Copies will also be available for purchase and signing at the program.

Ms Grumbles experiments with making wine from fruits, edible flowers, vegetables, herbs, wild foods, grains—nearly anything that grows. Her Web site at http://www.natural-winemaking.com describes some fascinating current winemaking experiments using unusual produce such as clover, bananas, lavender blossoms, and ever-abundant zucchini.

The multitalented Grumbles is a Radiation Health Physicist for the Washington Department of Health’s Office of Radiation Protection. An herbalist of over 30 years with a degree in nutrition, Grumbles specializes in edible wild plants. She also teaches wellness practices such as the use of essential oils.
