Celebrate Westport’s new library at dedication and open house
A
public dedication ceremony celebrating the new Westport Timberland Library
building will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 9 inside the library at 101
E Harms Avenue, Westport. An open house with refreshments, demonstrations and
entertainment for all ages will follow and continue until 3 p.m.
The dedication ceremony will include brief remarks by Timberland Regional Library and City of Westport officials and representatives of the Friends of the Westport Timberland Library. The Friends of the Westport Timberland Library will then transfer the deed to the library to the City and the ribbon will be cut.
During the open house, Virgil Stortroen will play the guitar and sing, Jenny Leighton will perform on keyboard and Hilary Richrod will create balloon animals. Timberland library staff will demonstrate the library’s new self-checkout computer. Juice, coffee and cake will be served in the library’s meeting room.
The new library is the achievement of a special partnership of the Friends of the Westport Timberland Library and its building fundraising group, the LEAP Committee (Library Expansion Action Program), and Timberland Regional Library. Foundations, businesses, agencies and individuals from the South Beach area to Washington, D.C. responded with their financial and in-kind support.
The grand opening event has been developed to celebrate their achievement and to welcome the people of the South Beach to their new library.
