Brian Pertl to play, discuss the didjeridu at Tumwater library
Brian
Pertl will explore the role of the didjeridu in Australian Aboriginal society
and the instrument’s rise in the contemporary world music scene. Pertl’s free
public presentation, “Didjeridus, Discos, and Dim Sum: How the World Fell in
Love with a Termite-hollowed Log,” will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 1 at
the Tumwater Timberland Library.
Through performance and audience participation, Pertl will demonstrate what goes into great didjeridu playing. He will also show the differences between traditional and nontraditional playing and explore how the didjeridu has joined the global mainstream although the instrument was almost unknown 20 years ago outside of Australia.
Pertl is an ethnomusicologist and master didjeridu player who has recorded as a member of the DidjeriDudes.
The Tumwater Timberland Library is located at 7023 New Market Street. For more information, please call 943-7790.
