Timberland libraries collect food for pets
The
Timberland Regional Library system is having a pet food drive this summer at all
27 Timberland libraries. Donations will benefit local animal shelters, food
banks, and organizations that rescue animals or help people who are in need keep
their pets.
People can donate pet food or supplies. Collection boxes labeled "Feed Our Animals Friends" will be at the Timberland libraries through the end of August. The drive is being held in conjunction with Timberland’s 2006 summer reading programs, "Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales" for children, and "Creature Feature" for teens.
More information about libraries’ summer programs or the pet food drive is available at the Timberland Web site, www.trlib.org or by contacting any Timberland library.
Timberland libraries, by county, and the agencies they are collecting for:
Grays Harbor County:
Aberdeen and Hoquiam: PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society) of Grays Harbor; Hoquiam is also collecting for Hoquiam Animal Control
Amanda Park: Quinault Community Food Bank
Elma and McCleary: McCleary Food Bank
Oakville: Oakville Food Bank
Montesano: Montesano Food Bank
Westport: Harbor Association of Volunteers for Animals (HAVA)
Lewis County:

Pacific County:
Ilwaco, Naselle and Ocean South: Pacific County Humane Society, Long Beach. (The summer focus on animals has had some unexpected benefits for a few pets. One Ocean Park staff person has given a new home to a dog named Cocoa. And a member of the Friends of the Ilwaco and Ocean Park Timberland Libraries has adopted two kittens, a pair she just could not separate.)
Raymond and South Bend: Harbor Association of Volunteers for Animals (HAVA), Raymond
Thurston County:
Lacey: Thurston County Animal Services, Olympia
Olympia and Tumwater: Thurston County Food Bank, Olympia (The Tumwater library also has a box for food donations for people. Those donations also go to the Thurston County Food Bank.)
Tenino: Tenino Food Bank
Yelm: Animal Rescue and Adoption (a partner of the Rainier Public Works Animal Shelter). If enough items are received, the library will also deliver pet food to Yelm Community Services.
Timberland Regional Library serves the information, reading and lifelong learning needs of the Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, and Thurston county public at 27 community libraries and 7 library service partner locations. The library system is funded by local property taxes. For information on any subject, the public can telephone Timberland’s Central Reference Service librarians at 704-4636 in the Olympia calling area or from all other areas, toll-free, at 1-800-562-6022.
