Shelton Timberland Library to reopen Monday, June 26

The Shelton Timberland Library (William G. Reed Library) will reopen Monday, June 26 at 10 a.m. Closed since June 1 so the City of Shelton could have the library’s HVAC (heating-ventilation-air conditioning) system replaced, the project is on schedule and nearing completion.

The Friends of the William G. Reed Library will serve cookies Monday to help welcome people back to their library. Library staff will be completing the shelving of roughly 400 boxes of the Shelton library’s books and other materials that people returned during the closure. According to city official, Jay Ebbeson, finish work and system adjustments are likely to be ongoing the day of reopening but this will not impact the public’s use of the building.

"During the closure, library staff have continued to serve the public by mailing out materials that Shelton library users had on hold, emptying the book drops at the library, packing up materials for reshelving, working at other Timberland libraries and visiting schools," said Sandra Sebbas, Interim Library Manager.

Signup for the free summer reading program, "Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales," begins Monday and continues throughout the summer. The kickoff presentation will be Wednesday, June 28 at 2 p.m. when Fairie Moon Animal Rescue will describe how they help animals in trouble and how people can keep their own animals safe and sound. They also discuss animal adoption options. Weather permitting, the program will take place on the grassy area outside the library. Otherwise it will be in the library.

The library’s Friends group will resume its book sales on Saturday, July 1, 10 to 4 p.m. in the library. Sales are held the first Saturday of each month. Proceeds go toward library materials and programs.
