Right Tree Right Place:
Join celebration & tree planting at Olympia Timberland Library demonstration
site
Join in the planting and celebration of a new utility-friendly tree demonstration site Saturday, September 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Olympia Timberland Library 313 8th Avenue SE, Olympia.
Throughout the afternoon, join staff of the City of Olympia’s Neighborwoods Program for hands-on tree-planting workshops to take place on three sides of the library property. Seventeen varieties of trees that grow well in the urban environment and are well suited for planting under power lines will be included. At 1:30 p.m., children can help plant a tree at a special kid-friendly tree-planting ceremony.
Inside the library, displays and handouts will provide information about the project and about a variety of small trees that are appropriate to plant under power lines. A rustic furniture display by The Evergreen State College’s Wood Shop will show uses of salvaged wood. Activities for children include the puppet show, "Once Upon a Tree," at 2 and 3 p.m. (registration required) and miniature lathe demonstrations by the Olympia Woodturners throughout the afternoon. There will also be refreshments and chances to win tree-related prizes.
For more information about this event, please contact the Olympia Timberland Library at 352-0595 or Micki McNaughton at the City of Olympia, 570-5847.
