Ross Matteson to give slide talk on his bronze sculpture and Northern Flicker Monument

Olympia sculptor Ross Matteson will give a talk that details the making of his six-foot-tall bronze sculpture for the Northern Flicker Monument that is located in Seattle. The presentation will be held Tuesday, March 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Olympia Timberland Library. Accompanied by slides, the talk will focus on the making of the monument from start to finish, including both the public art process and the foundry process. The evening will include a signing of Matteson’s recently published book, "The Falcon’s Feather – Images, Poems, and Sculpture." The book features Matteson’s bronzes and his black and white photography and poetry.
Matteson is a lifelong Washingtonian. He and his family live in Olympia. Matteson's art is informed by direct experience in training falcons and observing nature. His bronze falcons and other works exhibit grace, quiet power and tactile appeal. The sculptures have sold in 14 countries worldwide. The $30,000 Northern Flicker Monument was dedicated at North Seattle Community College on June 7, 2005. It was funded by the Washington State Arts Commission and the students of the college. Matteson’s Web site at www.mattesonsculpture.com provides further background and photos of his work both finished and in process.
