Friends of the North Mason Timberland Library invite all to
Celebrate 40th Anniversary
The Friends of the North Mason Timberland Library are inviting all ages to join them Friday and Saturday, October 20 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as they celebrate 40 years as an organization working to benefit the Belfair library and community. The celebration will be at the library, located at 23081 NE State Route 3, Belfair.
The event includes a book sale on both Friday and Saturday. Festivities on Saturday include storyteller Susan Anderson-Newham, “Art-trivia” games for the whole family, a video presentation, prizes and refreshments.
A Very Brief History
The Friends of North Mason Timberland Library officially organized as a group in 1966 although they began in spirit in 1950, the year when a small group of women organized to acquire a library for Belfair. That year, Dorothy Newkirk Harper donated space in a section of her drug store and opened a library.
From the time of this modest beginning, the dedicated library Friends have promoted, supported and raised funds on behalf of a series of library facilities. The two most recent are the library that opened in 1979, cozy with its Jotul wood stove, and the current spacious and soaring library that opened in 1998.
The Friends have purchased thousands of dollars worth of gifts for the library over the years including books and other library materials, furnishings, landscaping and works of art. Much of the art reflects the building’s setting along the Theler wetlands.
Saturday’s Special Activities
Storyteller Susan Anderson-Newham is Saturday’s main presenter. As her biography states, she is “descended from a family of talkers and storytellers.” She has recently moved to a farm with her family and has many good stories to share.
11-11:30 a.m. The storyteller presents participation stories from around the world for children of all ages.
1-1:30 p.m. Anderson-Newham brings the grownups into the act with fun-filled stories about kings, cows, princesses and frogs.
Throughout the day
