Mythic stories of Puget Salish Tribes offer universal view of life

Photo of Roger FernandesRoger Fernandes, a member of the Lower-Elwha Band of S'Klallam Indians, will tell mythic stories of the Native Puget Tribes. The program will be at the Mountain View Timberland Library on Monday, December 18 at 7 p.m. It is free of charge and open to the public.

The stories we call myths all share the universal search for meaning. Fernandes’s presentation, entitled "Star Babies and Whistling Grandmothers: Mythic Stories of the Puget Salish Tribes," offers a Native view of the world. The stories address the challenges that confront us as human beings and the way humans are supposed to live in this unique environment.

Fernandes is an artist, educator and captivating storyteller, who has worked for over 20 years to raise people’s awareness of the uniqueness and spirituality of the Puget Salish art and culture.

This Humanities Washington, Inquiring Mind program is being presented by the Mountain View Timberland Library. For more information, please contact the library at (360) 497-2665.
