Artist Erik Sandgren shows images of recent northern journey & paintings

Erik Sandrgren paintingErik Sandgren, art instructor at Grays Harbor College and internationally known artist, will show slides of his recent journey to the Queen Charlotte Islands and Alaska, interspersed with images of his own paintings crafted along the way. The presentation, entitled "Evocations of Water: An Artist’s Voyage to the Queen Charlotte Islands and Alaska," will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 at the Montesano Timberland Library (W.H. Abel Memorial Library).

The presentation is sponsored by the Friends of the Montesano Timberland Library as part of its public monthly Lunch for Your Brains series of lectures. The Friends of the Library group also welcomes adult members of the public to attend its regular meeting at 10:30 a.m. on the morning of the presentation.

Sandgren has received numerous awards and grants for his art. His works are exhibited throughout the nation and collected around the world. Some of his local public artworks can be seen at the Montesano and Aberdeen Timberland libraries. A frieze of images based on North American petroglyphs is integrated with the interior architectural design of the Aberdeen library building. His mural at the Montesano library, "Chehalis at the Tidewater," interprets how the Chehalis River is fundamental to Montesano area wildlife, culture and history.
