Centralia Timberland Library reopens Wednesday, August 23

The Centralia Timberland Library reopens at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 23 after a week-and-a-half closure due to water damage from a broken pipe. Full library services will be available including information services, access to Internet, catalog and database computers, book checkout, and programs such as story time and book discussions. During the summer months, 900 people come in to use the library each day.

The main floor reading area near the current magazines will be partitioned off while ceiling repairs are completed. The second floor, which includes young adult books, back issues of magazines and newspapers, oversized nonfiction, and city directories will remain closed a little longer while carpet is glued down and furniture, equipment and other items are moved back into place. Meanwhile, library staff will retrieve second-floor items for the public.

About 250 books, two computers and most of the current magazine issues were damaged after a pipe burst in the second-floor staff room Saturday night, August 12, setting off fire alarms in the ceiling below. By 4 a.m. Sunday morning, library staff and a crew from Heritage Restoration of Chehalis began the cleanup. The building passed a required air quality test on Monday.

For more information, people may telephone the Centralia library at 736-0183.
