Library winter program participants read books, won prizes

This February and March, 620 readers joined in the Timberland Regional Library Adult Winter Reading Club, burrowed into their favorite reading spots, and read 5,730 books. That’s an average of a little over nine books for each participant, a book a week. But a few booklovers read 25 to 30 books; another gobbled up 60; and one polished off an awesome 90 volumes. Participants turned in lists of the books they read to their local libraries. Each list of five books doubled as an entry for local and districtwide prize drawings.

All 27 Timberland libraries offered the reading program. Many libraries awarded local prizes such as gift certificates, books, and "literary lattes". Districtwide prizewinners were drawn at the library system’s administrative center in Tumwater on April 14 (in honor of National Library Week, April 10-16). All winners have been notified. Local businesses and Friends of the Library groups donated all of the prizes.
