Willapa’s Bob Pyle to discuss writing at South Bend Library
Award-winning
writer and naturalist, Robert Michael Pyle, will discuss the writing of his
highly regarded book, Wintergreen, and his work as an essayist on Wednesday,
November 30 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the South Bend Timberland Library.
Emerging writers and all those interested in the writing process or natural
history will be particularly interested in interacting with the longtime Willapa
area resident.
Winner of the 1987 John Burroughs Medal for the Best Natural History Book of the Year, Wintergreen shares Dr. Pyle’s love of the Willapa Hills of southwest Washington, where both the human and the forest communities have been profoundly affected by ecological change.
A professional writer since 1982, Pyle has published 14 books, and hundreds of papers, essays, stories, and poems. His books include The Butterflies of Cascadia, Walking the High Ridge: Life as a Field Trip, Chasing Monarchs, and Where Bigfoot Walks.
Dr. Pyle earned his Ph.D. in ecology from Yale University. He has lectured and taught all over the U.S., and appeared on National Public Radio's E-Town and All Things Considered as well as Good Morning America. A lifelong conservationist, he received a 1997 Distinguished Service Award from the Society for Conservation Biology.
The Friends of the South Bend and the Raymond Timberland Libraries are sponsoring the discussion. The South Bend Timberland Library is located at 1st and Pacific Street, South Bend. For more information, please call the library at (360) 875-5532.
