Tap your toes with fiddle tunes of the Lewis & Clark era

Photo of Phil and Vivian WilliamsMusicians and folklorists Phil and Vivian Williams will play the lively fiddle tunes of the Lewis and Clark era at a free public performance starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at the Olympia Timberland Library. The Friends of the Olympia Library are sponsoring the performance and will also honor the library’s volunteers during the evening.

Corps of Discovery members used the fiddle both as way to have fun and to get acquainted with Native Americans, trade for horses and ask for help. Besides fiddles, the Williams will play guitar, frame drum, and other instruments used by members of the expedition. They’ll also share a bit of the history of the tunes and some passages from expedition journals about fiddling and dancing with the Natives.

For more information, please contact the Olympia Timberland Library at (360) 352-0595.
