Welcome winter with Magical Strings at North Mason library’s annual concert

Philip and Pam BouldingMagical Strings brings its stirring Celtic music to Belfair, inviting all to joyfully welcome the winter season. Musical artists, Philip and Pam Boulding, play beguiling music with Celtic harps, dulcimers and other instruments.* The duo will perform at the North Mason Timberland Library Thursday, December 8 at 7 p.m. This annual winter concert is for all ages and is free of charge.

With their original compositions the Bouldings weave complex arrangements from Celtic melodies, with classical and world music influences. Reviewers have described their music as “warm, graceful and sonically gorgeous,” “the aurora borealis” with “crisp, clear notes that cascade in the air.” The music has “a rhythmic sturdiness and pulse so rarely encountered in most harp and hammer dulcimer playing.”

The Bouldings have performed in concert throughout the world and on radio and television, including “A Prairie Home Companion,” NPR's Weekend Edition, CNN both in the U.S. and Europe, and prime time television in Japan. In multitalented bardic tradition, they also design and build musical instruments, run the School of Magical Strings in Olalla, Washington, and have recorded 13 albums.

The Friends of the North Mason Timberland Library are sponsoring this enchanting winter celebration. The library is located at 23081 NE State Route 3, Belfair. For more information, please call the library at (360) 275-3232.

* A dulcimer is a musical instrument with strings of graduated lengths stretched over a sounding board or box. It is played by striking the strings with small hand-held hammers and by plucking.
