Northwest Native arts feature in slide lecture
Barry
Herem, a Washington artist, photographer and art researcher, will present "Arts
of the Raven Coast," a slide lecture on the form, meaning, and esthetic
achievement of traditional and modern arts of the Haida, Tlingit, Tsimshian and
Kwakiutl peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. The presentation will be
offered free of charge at the Lacey Timberland Library this Saturday, December
10 at 1:30 p.m.
Herem will explore dramatic art forms such as the famed totem poles, huge tribal houses, carved house posts, and 70-foot canoes, as well as masks, feast dishes, dancing robes, and carved chests and boxes. Photos will show pieces in their original settings and in museums and private collections throughout the world.
This is a Humanities Washington Inquiring Mind presentation. For more information, please call the Lacey library at (360) 491-3860.
