Carl Allen sings Woody Guthrie’s Columbia River songs at Lacey library
Folksinger
Carl Allen will perform many of Woody Guthrie’s well-known “Columbia River
songs” at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 12 at the Lacey Timberland Library. Allan
also provides some historical background and shares some of Guthrie’s stories.
Allen has extensively researched the history of Woody Guthrie and the 26 songs he wrote while in the Columbia River Valley in the 1940s. The Columbia River songs, written to promote public power with the new dams being built on the river, were eventually forgotten then rediscovered in the 1980s, enriching Northwest heritage.
This performance is free of charge; it is sponsored by the Friends of the Lacey Timberland Library. The library is located at 500 College Street SE. For more information, call (360) 491-3860.
