Partnership Benefits Family Literacy Project

The Timberland Regional Library Foundation and the Timberland Regional Library announced today that Comcast will donate $10,000 in cash and at least $55,000 worth of production support and air time to further the Library’s Mother Goose Literacy Project and family literacy efforts.

"The Mother Goose family literacy project provides parents in-need with the tools they need to incorporate reading into their lives and the lives of their children," said Ellen Duffy, Timberland’s Youth Services Coordinator. "We are grateful to Comcast for its support and dedication to literacy and to families."

"Comcast is proud to support Timberland Library’s Mother Goose project. We recognize the importance of the special bond that reading together forms between parents and children. This special project strengthens families and supports lifelong learning." said Anne McMullen, Comcast’s area vice president.

Comcast is also featuring representatives of TRL on Comcast Local Edition, an interview program that airs throughout Western Washington at :25 and :55 after the hour on CNN Headline News.

The Mother Goose Project works with community partners, such as Headstart, Community Youth Services, Evenstart and local community colleges, to reach parents in need. Parents receive picture books, activity guides and a multi-week training workshop that transforms reading with children into a multidimensional and powerful learning experience. One Mother Goose parent participant said, "You can learn to interact with your children better and the books can help a parent help their children better understand some real life circumstances."

Timberland is able to offer this program only through the generous support of partners like Comcast.
