Getting to know local birds with Ruth McCausland
Ruth McCausland, noted local historian, author and bird enthusiast, talks about identifying the land, water, and sea birds that frequent the Grays Harbor area. The presentation is at 2 p.m. Sunday March 20 at the Aberdeen Timberland Library. The lecture, “Getting Acquainted with Your Local Birds,” is free of charge and geared to a high school to adult-level audience.
Tokeland resident Mrs. McCausland will use miniature wooden birds hand-carved by her husband Bob McCausland to help audience members discover the identifying marks of different birds. A 40-year member of the Audubon Society, Mrs. McCausland has studied and observed birds all her adult life.
An exhibit of the carved birds is at the library through March and April. Also on display are some of Ruth McCausland’s writings on birds and Bob McCausland’s bird illustrations.
“Getting Acquainted with Your Local Birds” is the last program of the library’s 2005 Winter Lecture Series. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Aberdeen Timberland Library. For more information, the public is welcome to call the library at (360) 533-2360.
