Libraries host performances of traditional American music and tales
Traditional
American music and storytelling fans of all ages have a tough choice to make
this Saturday afternoon, November 20.
From 2-3 p.m. at the Olympia Timberland Library, Joe and Paula McHugh help families celebrate Children’s Book Week (Nov. 15-21) with a variety of American tales, humorous anecdotes, and ghost stories. The McHughs will play tunes on fiddle, banjo, and dulcimer and demonstrate clog dolls and fiddle sticks. They have published two children’s books and their stories have been featured on national radio. More information: (360) 352-0595.
From 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lacey Timberland Library, Phil and Vivian Williams will play the hoedowns, waltzes, reels, and schottisches that were played by pioneers who came to the Northwest over the Oregon Trail. They’ll also retell some of the tales of the old Pacific Northwest. More information: (360) 491-3860.
Both presentations are sponsored by the libraries’ Friends of the Library groups.
