New "Talk Time" series for Spanish, English-speakers to start at Aberdeen library
The Aberdeen Timberland Library will host a new series of its popular
programs, "Talk Time/Charlas," from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday from October 6
through November 10, offering Spanish and English speaking adults and their
families opportunities to practice and improve their English and Spanish
conversation skills in a relaxed atmosphere. The library offers this series of
six programs in partnership with Grays Harbor College. The programs are free of
charge. Children of all ages are welcome to join their parents and either
converse or spend some time doing a children's activity.
Talk Time is not a class. Level of skill is not important. There are no tests or evaluations. Aberdeen reference librarian Thirza Krohn and trained Talk Time volunteers will offer various situations or topics as conversation starters. Some topics planned for the new series include jobs, voting and other citizen rights, recreational opportunities in the area, holidays, using the library, and shopping. Activities will include opportunities to practice both Spanish and English languages.
Sessions held last spring were very successful, with an average of 39 participants. Of those, 19 were Spanish-speaking adults. People interested in practicing Spanish and some volunteers accounted for the rest.
The library may offer six more sessions this coming spring and possibly a short series of 3 programs mid-winter. For more information or directions, people can call the library at (360) 533-2360.
