Democracy in Action at Aberdeen Timberland Library

The Aberdeen Timberland Library is offering the public an opportunity for thoughtful discussion and active participation in their democracy with the program, The September Project: Advance Screening and Discussion of the Film, "Poetry in Wartime," from 1:30 to 4 p.m., Saturday September 11.

The feature-length documentary film, Poetry in Wartime, looks at war through images and the words of poets. Lynne Lerych, Instructor of English and Film at Grays Harbor College will facilitate an audience discussion following the viewing of the film. The screening and discussion are free of charge.

Any time from 1 to 4 p.m. adults can also register to vote at the library with the League of Women Voters of Grays Harbor County and pick up information on voting in the elections.

The program is part of "The September Project" (www.theseptemberproject.org), a nationwide observance of democracy and citizen participation. On September 11, 2004, people across the country will come together at public places like local libraries to discuss ideas of democracy, citizenship, and patriotism. Libraries throughout Washington and the rest of the nation are participating.

Voices in Wartime (www.voicesinwartime.org) is the sponsor of the film as well as a website for people to publish their written and artistic responses to war and to view and comment on the works. September 11 is the special pre-release date for screening at public libraries around the country.

For more information, please call the Aberdeen Timberland Library at (360) 533-2360. The library is located at 121 E Market Street, Aberdeen. (www.trlib.org)
