Yelm Timberland Library and Tacoma Art Museum Offers Community Art Workshops
Members of the Yelm-area community have a special opportunity to create a work of art with the guidance of staff from the Tacoma Art Museum. "Art Day in Yelm" will run from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1.
Participants from age 10 to adult can explore gouache painting and monotype printing in the library’s Living Room or join others downstairs in the lobby to create a collective collage artwork that explores issues facing the community. All materials for the workshops will be provided.
The Tacoma Art Museum is showing two exhibitions that relate to the art workshops being offered at the library. Running through May 3, they are "12th Street Series: Never Late for Heaven: The Art of Gwendolyn Knight," which reveals the variety of materials and methods Knight uses to create her art, and "Indivisible: Stories of American Community" a photography and oral history project.
"Art Day in Yelm" is made possible by the Washington State Arts Commission Community Consortia Grant 2002-2003 and consortia partners: Tacoma Art Museum, Yelm Timberland Library, Yelm School District and the Nisqually Regional Arts Council/YPPA.
