- Library Codes listed below are used in the
Magazines & Newspapers Catalog
to
indicate the library location for print and microfilm magazines and
newspapers.
- Library Codes for print magazines are linked into the online
Library Catalog where you can place a hold on magazine issues. Print
magazines can be checked out of the library just as other library materials
can be checked out. Example:

Holdings Codes |
Each holdings notation for a magazine or
newspaper consists of a dated holdings statement followed by the library
code for the library that has those particular holdings.
- If a library retains a permanent collection of a current
subscription, the entry used is a beginning date, e.g., "[ 1940 Jan
] to present".
- If a title is no longer received, but is maintained in a
permanent collection, the entry also includes a closing date, e.g.,
"[ 1984 Jan ] to [ 1990 Dec ]".
- Due to a lack of space, it is necessary for many TRL libraries
to discard magazines on a regular basis. The holdings statement used
where such regular discarding occurs is the number of previous years
in addition to the current year. For example, the notation "[ 2
years ago ] to present" means that 2 years of back issues are kept
in the library in addition to the current year's issues.
