The North Mason library began in 1950 in Dorothy Newkirk Harper's Belfair Drug store. The drug store was sold in 1958 and when the new owner relocated the store in 1966, the library moved to leased space in the back of a TV shop. In July 1976, it was moved to slightly larger leased space until September 1979.

A new library was opened in November 1979. The Friends of the North Mason Library purchased the land for the library building and deeded the property to the district. TRL purchased additional land at the current site on which a new 14,400 square foot library was built.

The old North Mason building was recycled and moved by barge where it reopened as the Hoodsport library in March 1997. The new North Mason building was opened in March 1998. Since Belfair is not incorporated, there is no contractual arrangement.

The North Mason Library has: 

• Books, videotapes, DVDs, CDs, audio cassettes, newspapers and magazines for readers and library users of all ages. 

 
• Programs and events for children and adults.

 
• Computers with access to the Internet, Microsoft Office, and online reference databases.  One-hour computer sessions can be reserved using the online booking system or by calling the library.
   
• Free wireless Internet access in the library during regular open hours.
   
• A public meeting room that can be reserved for community meetings and programs by calling the library.
