Animal Pictures Archive
The Animal Pictures Archive contains over 34,000 animal-related images and photographs including pet animals. You can upload your own photos of animals to this photo gallery and share them with people all over the world.

ARKive: Images of Life on Earth
ARKive has gathered together the very best films and photographs of the world's species into one digital library to create a unique audio-visual record of life on Earth, prioritizing those species at most risk of extinction. A great resource for kids and educators.

Freshwater and Marine Image Bank
University of Washington’s digital collection has over 21,000 images of fish, shellfish, and marine mammals, pictures of fish hatcheries and dams and vessels, materials related to polar exploration, regional and traditional fisheries, and limnological (freshwater) subjects. Most of the images were taken from a variety of publications issued between 1735 and 1924.

US Fish and Wildlife Service Digital Library System
The Fish and Wildlife Service's collection of public domain still photos, videos, and audio clips. You can search by keyword or browse collections that are organized by geographic location and subject.


American Museum of Photography
A "museum without walls," changing exhibits feature masterworks, historical photos, early daguerreotypes and current art photography.

American Photography: a Century of Images
An excellent interactive site created by the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) that explores the history of photography.  Site is divided into categories of art, photography and war, digital truth, presidential imagemaking, advertising and persuasion, social change, and cultural identity.

Artcyclopedia
"A guide to great art on the internet."  Includes over 180,000 images of mostly paintings and sculpture.

Getty Photo Study Collection
Over two million photographs covering Western art, architecture, and decorative arts from antiquity to modern times.

Imagebase
Searchable database of the collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Contains over 82,000 images!

Lessing Photo Archive
Erich Lessing Culture and Fine Arts Archive is an extensive image library featuring over 40.000 high resolution images from over 500 museums and many other collections. Founded and mostly photographed by Erich Lessing, the collection covers a wide range of subjects: Fine Arts, Religion, History, Music, Archaeology, Mythology, Architecture, Landscapes, Historical Portraits and Reportage.

SJSU WorldImages database
The internationally recognized WorldImages database provides access to the California State University IMAGE Project. It contains approximately 80,000 images, is global in coverage and includes all areas of visual imagery.


Bing Images
Microsoft's Bing search engine. Displays trending images searches on the home page, and allows you to limit your results by size, layout, color, etc.

Compfight
"Compfight is an image search engine tailored to efficiently locate images for blogs, comps, inspiration, and research. We make good use of the flickr™ API, but aren't affiliated with flickr."

Google Image
According to Google, "The most comprehensive image search on the web."

Picsearch
"An image search service with more than 3,000,000,000 pictures... Picsearch allows children to surf in safety as all offensive material is filtered out by our advanced filtering systems."

Tag Galaxy
Tag Galaxy searches for images via their "tags" on flickr and displays them in an incredible visualization resembling the galaxy.

Yahoo! Image Search
Narrow your search to photography results by adding the word “photograph” to your search terms (ex: “dog photograph”).  You can also search for images that are a specific size or from a specific website by using the “advanced search” option, which can be found directly to the right of the yellow image search button.


Earth Science World Image Bank
Over 6,000 earth science images.  Can browse by categories such as volcanoes, weather, lakes, and minerals, or search by category, location, and/or keyword.

Geo-Images Project
The Geo-Images project was designed by the University of California Berkeley to provide access to images (mostly photographs) that are useful in teaching geography.

Images Canada
"The gateway to images of Canadian events, people, places and things!"  Site may be accessed in English or French.

TerraServer.com
(Requires a Java-enabled browser.) Database of aerial photographs and satellite images. Current coverage is mainly the U. S. and parts of Europe with other scattered areas of the world.

Another tutorial site created by the Boston University Libraries.  This tutorial covers topics such as downloading images, inserting images into documents, and dealing with copyright in addition to providing lists of visual resource sites

This wildly popular, easy to use photo sharing site claims to be "the best online photo management and sharing application in the world."

Photobucket
"Photobucket is the place to store, create and share photos and videos for life. Upload all your best pictures, images, graphics, icons, and videos and share them by email or link them to your favorite sites like Facebook and Twitter."

Stock.XCHNG
Free stock photography site that allows anyone to share their work.  Currently contains over 350,000 large, high quality photos.  Can access more content if you create a free account.


Images from the History of Medicine
The National Library of Medicine has created this database of over 60,000 images.  "The collection includes portraits, pictures of institutions, caricatures, genre scenes, and graphic art in a variety of media, illustrating the social and historical aspects of medicine."

Index of Medieval Medical Images (IMMI)
The Index of Medieval Medical Images includes medieval manuscript images (up to the year 1500) with medical components held in North American collections. Curated by UCLA Special Collections library.

Public Health Image Library (PHIL)
An extensive set of photographs, illustrations, and multimedia files related to public health.  Database was created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.


Airliners.net
Over 1,900,000 photos of commercial airliners, military aircraft, classic and historic airplanes, helicopters, accidents, airplane interiors and airports.

American Memory

Archive of Early American Images
Brown University’s historical images database of the colonial Americas between 1492 and 1825.  Great for school assignments requiring historical primary sources. 

British Library Images Online
A wonderful site with over 150 million images from the British Library collection.  The site includes a subject index and a title index in addition to the usual search options.  New images are added daily.

Catalog of Spaceborne Imaging: Planetary Image Archives
Over 500 NASA images of the solar system, organized by planet and space mission.

Hillman’s Wonders of the World
Images and descriptions of the top 100 wonders of the world according to travel authority Howard Hillman.

Images of American Political History
A collection of images and other media believed to be in the public domain that illustrate the political history of the United States.  Includes documents and images from the 1600's to present day.

Imaging Everest
A photographic history of Mount Everest created by the Royal Geographical Society and the the Institute of British Geographers.

National Aeronautics & Space Administration’s (NASA) Image eXchange

New York Public Library Digital Gallery

Jones Photo Collection

Seattle Municipal Archives Photograph Collection
