The Centralia Timberland Library is in the same location as the original
Carnegie library which was built in 1913. It was remodeled in 1977-78 with an
Economic Development Grant to accommodate a larger collection and more services
than the previous 6,200 square foot building.
Features of the building include the chandelier from the old Centralia High
School hanging above the main stairway, four fireplaces, an elevator and unique
folk art from a craftsman who was a patron of the library. An antiques and
collectibles environment supports the major economic thrust of downtown
Centralia.
An Education Job Information Center (EJIC) is located in the Centralia
library. The Centralia library has public use computer labs in the reference and
youth services areas. Centralia has annexed to Timberland for its library
services.
The Centralia Library has:
- Books, videotapes, DVDs, CDs, audio cassettes, newspapers
and magazines for readers and library users of all ages.
-
Programs and events for children and adults.
- Computers with access to the Internet, Microsoft Office,
and online reference databases. One-hour computer sessions can be
reserved using the online
reservation system or by calling the library.
- Free wireless Internet access in the library during regular open hours.
- A public meeting room that can be reserved for
community meetings and programs by calling the library.
Contact the library for information about the local
Library Board and the local
Friends group.
