Title: 61*: Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle and One Great Summer
Author: Leon Maris
Review:
61* is about two guys named Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, two great Yankees baseball players going for Babe Ruth’s record of 60 home runs in a season. They were racing towards the top. They were gonna hit 64 for Roger and 59 for Mickey. But there were rainy days that didn’t count. There was a great fall by Mickey in the outfield (he played right field) and he suggered the rest of his career with a leg injury, with 49 homers. Other people hated Roger because he was a country boy from Kansas and not a city boy. They would throw chairs at him from the crowds. Roger lost hair from stress. Roger hit 59, finally only two more to go to beat Ruth. But one of Babe’s friends recalled that Babe did this in a certain amount of days. He finally got it—61 home runs in a reason. He had two more days left of the season. He give in and hit no more. He held this record ‘til 1995. Now Mark Maquire has it. He raced Sammy Sosa. That’s what 61* is about.

Title: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Author: Mark Twain
Review:
I liked this book a lot because Tom loved to have a lot of adventures. He was going to run away to become a pirate with his friend Huckleberry Finn. Tom met a girl named Becky Thatcher and that was his girlfriend. Amy used to be his girlfriend but he liked Becky more. Huck and Tom found money and they got to keep it. Injunjoe had killed the professor in the graveyard that night. Huck and Tom only saw him do it.

Title: Aquamarine
Author: Alice Hoffman
Review:
This book was amazing, funny, sad, silly and weird. Aquamarine is about two best friends who have lived next to each other all their life, but suddenly their home starts to change. One of them has to move away, their only hangout is being closed down, and the most amazing thing that happens to them is when a giant wave brings a "MERMAID" to their hang-out's swimming pool. When the girls discover the mermaid, the mermaid sees the boy of her dreams, the hang-out's concession stand worker. When the girls try to hook her up with the concession stand worker, things get a little fishy. Read the book to find out what happens.

Title: Arthur Tricks the Tooth Fairy
Author: Marc Brown
Review:
I thought this book was: amazing. I liked this book because it was about Arthur. He buys a shark tooth and puts it under his pillow, and in the night the Tooth Fairy comes and takes it, then leaves him a quarter. If you want to know more about this book I think you should read it. I first read it when I was in first grade.

Title: Assassins of Rome
Author: Caroline Lawrence
Review:
This book was amazing, action packed, and full of facts. Woven around Greek and Roman mythology and Roman history, this book has twisting passages with every turn something new and exciting happens that keeps your heart beating 100 miles per hour. Your hands and eyes become glued to it. So, before opening it up and reading it, grab a snack, something to drink, a pillow, a blanket, and snuggle into a wonderfully soft chair and transport yourself to the world of ten-year-old Flavia Gemina, her ex-slave Nubia, Jonathan ben Mordecai, and a mute beggar boy names Lupus.

Title: Austere Academy
Author: Lemony Snicket
Review:
This book was action packed, funny, silly, and brainy. This is the fifth book in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, having no other place to go, have to stay at a boarding-school. Vice Principal Nero does little to protect them from the evil Count Olaf who discuises himself again. Through their terrible tale of woe, the Baudelaire orphans encounter horrid little Carmelita Spats, the school bully, the friendly Quagmire triplets who are orphans as well, and a terrible secret about Count Olaf involving something called V.F.D. I thought this book was action-packed, funny, a little silly, and brainy. Once again, Lemony Snicket pulls off an unfortunately spendid piece of work! Enjoy!

Title: The Bad Beginning
Author: Lemony Snicket
Review:
This book was: funny, silly, brainy, weird. Through this book you transport yourself to the lives of the three Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klause, and Sunny. Through this whole book unfortunate things happen to them; from when their house burns down to the ending. A perfect summer reading book, says I. If you are the type that likes happy endings, this book is definitely not for you, for the ending is anything but happy. There are parts in it that are funny, parts that are weird, parts that are quite silly. All in all, no other book--or series--has quite been like this. It is, in fact, quite a clever book. Hope you enjoy it!

Title: Because of Winn-Dixie
Author: Kate DiCamillo
Review:
I liked this book because it is very fun to read aloud or by yourself! What this book is about is about a girl who is new in town. She moves there because her father is a preacher who works at a church. Her father tells her to go to a super market to buy some food. There she meets a dog that causes a lot of trouble. The owner gets really mad and the girl says that the dog is hers but really it isn't. So she takes it to her house (a trailer park)and decides to name it Winn-Dixie. At first Winn-Dixie causes a lot of trouble. THANKS TO WINN-DIXIE, Opal (the girl) meets a lot of friends.

Title: The Colossus of Rhodes
Author: Caroline Lawrence
Review:
I thought the ninth book in the Roman Mysteries series was amazing, action-packed, full of facts, and a little sad. Ten-year-olf Flavia Gemina, eleven-year-old Jonathan ben Mordecai, ex-slave Nubia, and nine-year-old Lupus set sail to Rhodes. Along the way, Flavia and her friends hear rumors of freeborn children being kidnapped and sold as slaves, and bad omens plague them as they go. Flavia takes these to be someone trying to scare them off their investigating of the case of missing children. Meanwhile, Lupus is determined to find his mother again and goes to pursue the mission, ignoring the other case. I thought it was a little sad at the end, but, well, I can't tell you what it is because it would ruin the whole story! Caroline did an excellent job once again!

He is being pursued by a man named John Aycliffe who has put a wolf's head on him, meaning that anyone can kill him if seen. Title: The Dragon of Doom
Author: Bruce Coville
Review:
The Dragon Of Doom This book will take you on a very mysterious and magical trip. Read as a young boy, meets a man and they think they'll be slaying a big, mean, and dangerous dragon. They come to find out he's nothing taller than 4 feet. Experience the journey of magic, excitement, and most of all willingness and bravery to succeed on the journey. They meet the head of the magicians, who is trying to trick the man into a useless voyage. The book has every fun experience to magic and willingness, and is a great book to read if you're into mysterious things. I loved this book, because the young kid gets to help a magician with his spells and journeys, and I've always wanted to be able to do stuff with magic. I felt very excited and anxious to read this book and just waited to turn the page to know what else is going to happen. I think a lot of little kids should like this book and people who are interested in magic an excitement.

Title: Ersatz Elevator
Author: Lemony Snicket
Review:
I thought this sixth book to the unfortunate saga of the Baudelaire orphans was action-packed, funny, brainy, and somewhat weird. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are sent to live in a penthouse on 667 Dark Avenue, with Esme and Jerome Squalor as their new guardians. But the treacherous Count Olaf - disguised as an auctioneer named Gunther - shows up with a new plan of getting their fortune. They soon find out that Esme is more interested in what is in and what is out to pay attention to what they are saying about Gunther, and Jerome is of little help himself. Through the whole book, the Baudelaire orphans encounter unfortunate things such as a darkened staircase, a red herring, some friends in a dire situation, three mysterious initials, a liar with an evil scheme, a secret passageway, parsley soda, and someone that they never suspected to be a wonderful lying actress. These and more will leave you weeping uncontrollably after you get done reading it. So, if you have a stomach that can only handle happy things like Cinderella stories, don't read this book. But, if your stomach is made of stronger stuff, then you might actually enjoy this book and maybe even find it humorous, like I did. Once again, Lemony Snicket tells another saddening chapter in the Baudelaire saga.

The only sad thing is that it's not available in the US yet. [Coming October 2005!]
