Title: 61*: Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle and One Great Summer
Author: Leon Maris
Review:
61* is about two guys named Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, two great Yankees baseball players going for Babe Ruth’s record of 60 home runs in a season. They were racing towards the top. They were gonna hit 64 for Roger and 59 for Mickey. But there were rainy days that didn’t count. There was a great fall by Mickey in the outfield (he played right field) and he suggered the rest of his career with a leg injury, with 49 homers. Other people hated Roger because he was a country boy from Kansas and not a city boy. They would throw chairs at him from the crowds. Roger lost hair from stress. Roger hit 59, finally only two more to go to beat Ruth. But one of Babe’s friends recalled that Babe did this in a certain amount of days. He finally got it—61 home runs in a reason. He had two more days left of the season. He give in and hit no more. He held this record ‘til 1995. Now Mark Maquire has it. He raced Sammy Sosa. That’s what 61* is about.

Title: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Author: Mark Twain
Review:
I liked this book a lot because Tom loved to have a lot of adventures. He was going to run away to become a pirate with his friend Huckleberry Finn. Tom met a girl named Becky Thatcher and that was his girlfriend. Amy used to be his girlfriend but he liked Becky more. Huck and Tom found money and they got to keep it. Injunjoe had killed the professor in the graveyard that night. Huck and Tom only saw him do it.

Title: Aquamarine
Author: Alice Hoffman
Review:
This book was amazing, funny, sad, silly and weird. Aquamarine is about two best friends who have lived next to each other all their life, but suddenly their home starts to change. One of them has to move away, their only hangout is being closed down, and the most amazing thing that happens to them is when a giant wave brings a "MERMAID" to their hang-out's swimming pool. When the girls discover the mermaid, the mermaid sees the boy of her dreams, the hang-out's concession stand worker. When the girls try to hook her up with the concession stand worker, things get a little fishy. Read the book to find out what happens.

Title: Arthur Tricks the Tooth Fairy
Author: Marc Brown
Review:
I thought this book was: amazing. I liked this book because it was about Arthur. He buys a shark tooth and puts it under his pillow, and in the night the Tooth Fairy comes and takes it, then leaves him a quarter. If you want to know more about this book I think you should read it. I first read it when I was in first grade.

Title: Assassins of Rome
Author: Caroline Lawrence
Review:
This book was amazing, action packed, and full of facts. Woven around Greek and Roman mythology and Roman history, this book has twisting passages with every turn something new and exciting happens that keeps your heart beating 100 miles per hour. Your hands and eyes become glued to it. So, before opening it up and reading it, grab a snack, something to drink, a pillow, a blanket, and snuggle into a wonderfully soft chair and transport yourself to the world of ten-year-old Flavia Gemina, her ex-slave Nubia, Jonathan ben Mordecai, and a mute beggar boy names Lupus.

Title: Austere Academy
Author: Lemony Snicket
Review:
This book was action packed, funny, silly, and brainy. This is the fifth book in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, having no other place to go, have to stay at a boarding-school. Vice Principal Nero does little to protect them from the evil Count Olaf who discuises himself again. Through their terrible tale of woe, the Baudelaire orphans encounter horrid little Carmelita Spats, the school bully, the friendly Quagmire triplets who are orphans as well, and a terrible secret about Count Olaf involving something called V.F.D. I thought this book was action-packed, funny, a little silly, and brainy. Once again, Lemony Snicket pulls off an unfortunately spendid piece of work! Enjoy!

Title: The Bad Beginning
Author: Lemony Snicket
Review:
This book was: funny, silly, brainy, weird. Through this book you transport yourself to the lives of the three Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klause, and Sunny. Through this whole book unfortunate things happen to them; from when their house burns down to the ending. A perfect summer reading book, says I. If you are the type that likes happy endings, this book is definitely not for you, for the ending is anything but happy. There are parts in it that are funny, parts that are weird, parts that are quite silly. All in all, no other book--or series--has quite been like this. It is, in fact, quite a clever book. Hope you enjoy it!

Title: Because of Winn-Dixie
Author: Kate DiCamillo
Review:
I liked this book because it is very fun to read aloud or by yourself! What this book is about is about a girl who is new in town. She moves there because her father is a preacher who works at a church. Her father tells her to go to a super market to buy some food. There she meets a dog that causes a lot of trouble. The owner gets really mad and the girl says that the dog is hers but really it isn't. So she takes it to her house (a trailer park)and decides to name it Winn-Dixie. At first Winn-Dixie causes a lot of trouble. THANKS TO WINN-DIXIE, Opal (the girl) meets a lot of friends.

Title: The Colossus of Rhodes
Author: Caroline Lawrence
Review:
I thought the ninth book in the Roman Mysteries series was amazing, action-packed, full of facts, and a little sad. Ten-year-olf Flavia Gemina, eleven-year-old Jonathan ben Mordecai, ex-slave Nubia, and nine-year-old Lupus set sail to Rhodes. Along the way, Flavia and her friends hear rumors of freeborn children being kidnapped and sold as slaves, and bad omens plague them as they go. Flavia takes these to be someone trying to scare them off their investigating of the case of missing children. Meanwhile, Lupus is determined to find his mother again and goes to pursue the mission, ignoring the other case. I thought it was a little sad at the end, but, well, I can't tell you what it is because it would ruin the whole story! Caroline did an excellent job once again!

Title: The Dragon of Doom
Author: Bruce Coville
Review:
The Dragon Of Doom This book will take you on a very mysterious and magical trip. Read as a young boy, meets a man and they think they'll be slaying a big, mean, and dangerous dragon. They come to find out he's nothing taller than 4 feet. Experience the journey of magic, excitement, and most of all willingness and bravery to succeed on the journey. They meet the head of the magicians, who is trying to trick the man into a useless voyage. The book has every fun experience to magic and willingness, and is a great book to read if you're into mysterious things. I loved this book, because the young kid gets to help a magician with his spells and journeys, and I've always wanted to be able to do stuff with magic. I felt very excited and anxious to read this book and just waited to turn the page to know what else is going to happen. I think a lot of little kids should like this book and people who are interested in magic an excitement.

Title: Ersatz Elevator
Author: Lemony Snicket
Review:
I thought this sixth book to the unfortunate saga of the Baudelaire orphans was action-packed, funny, brainy, and somewhat weird. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are sent to live in a penthouse on 667 Dark Avenue, with Esme and Jerome Squalor as their new guardians. But the treacherous Count Olaf - disguised as an auctioneer named Gunther - shows up with a new plan of getting their fortune. They soon find out that Esme is more interested in what is in and what is out to pay attention to what they are saying about Gunther, and Jerome is of little help himself. Through the whole book, the Baudelaire orphans encounter unfortunate things such as a darkened staircase, a red herring, some friends in a dire situation, three mysterious initials, a liar with an evil scheme, a secret passageway, parsley soda, and someone that they never suspected to be a wonderful lying actress. These and more will leave you weeping uncontrollably after you get done reading it. So, if you have a stomach that can only handle happy things like Cinderella stories, don't read this book. But, if your stomach is made of stronger stuff, then you might actually enjoy this book and maybe even find it humorous, like I did. Once again, Lemony Snicket tells another saddening chapter in the Baudelaire saga.

I thought this eighth book in the Roman Mysteries series was amazing, action-packed, funny, and full of facts. The Colosseum has recently opened and the games have begun. ten-year-old Flavia Gemina, nine-year-old Lupus, and ex-slave Nubia go to Rome to watch the games and try to find their friend, eleven-year-old Jonathan ben Mordecai, whom they believed perished in the terrible fire that claimed many people's lives. This book is full of twists and turns that will lead you to the truth of where Jonathan is. In the end, Nubia is faced with a huge choice to make between two people. You'll love this book! The only sad thing is that it's not available in the US yet. [Coming October 2005!]

This eleventh book in A Series of Unfortunate Events was like all of the others: action-packed, funny, and brainy. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire take a trip in a rickety submarine known as the Queequeg with Captain Widdershins and his stepdaughter Fiona. The three orphans take part in the search for the sugar bowl, something that if Count Olaf got a hold of it would be deadly. In their search for the sugar bowl they encounter such things as mushrooms, an underwater expedition, the return of a nasty villain, a long-lost brother, and a horrid tap-dancing ballerina fairy-princess veterinarian. Read at your own risk.

This book was action packed, sad, and full of facts. It's about this owlet named Sorren who gets pushed out of his nest and gets taken to this freaky owl school where evil owls brainwash owlets. The way they hypnotize them is a thing called moon blinking, and they moonblinked all the owlets except Sorren and his friend Gylfie. They get help from a few inside sources and make it out. On the way home they meet two owls. A burrowing owl named Digger, who's brother was EATEN by a St. Aggies patrol (St. Aggies is the school) and Twilight, who was abandoned and grew up at the 'Orphans School of Tough Learning'.

I thought this book was action-packed and scary. The book was about Harry Potter. Harry's mother and father died by Lord Voldamort who put a curse on them and they died. Then Harry goes to this school, Hogwarts, which is only for witches and wizards. At the end (since this book is so long) Harry battles Lord Voldamort. THE END

Title: The lost years of merlin
Author: T. A. Barron
Review:
I thought this book was none of the above. the merlin books are pretty good, i would advise for ages 10-12.

The author obviosly did a lot of merlin research to create a young wizard struggling with his emerging powers. the only problem is that merlin blacks out and wakes up somewhere else ALOT.

Trust me, you will like this book if you are a fan of merlin, or just a person who wants a good fantasy story.

Title: The Miserable Mill
Author: Lemony Snicket
Review:
I thought this book was action packed, funny, gross, brainy, and weird. The fourth book to A Series of Unfortunate Events is just as brilliant as the others. This story was action packed, funny, a little gross 'cause someone gets chopped up in a saw, brainy, and a little weird. Follow the horrid lives of the three Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, as they are forced to live and work at the Lucky Smells Lumbermill. It's a great summer reading book! Those that love stories with suspense will gobble this book up in no time. The Miserable Mill is a great book. I think that anybody that reads it will think the same. The book is about three orphans that have to go to the Lucky Smells Lumber Mill and have to work there. When the boy gets tripped by a man, he has to go to an eye clinic to get new glasses. But when he gets there the people hypnotize him.

I thought this third Roman Myseries book was amazing, action-packed, funny, and full of facts. Mt. Vesuvius has erupted, burying Pompeii and many other towns nearby, making many once-wealthy people into refugees. In a refugee camp, someone has been kidnapping little kids and no one knows who. Until ten-year-old Flavia Gemina and her friends Jonathan ben Mordecai, her slave Nubia, and a mute beggar boy named Lupus decide to solve the mystery of the missing children. Packed full with suspense scenes, risky behavior, and many twists and turns, this will keep you turning the pages until you're done with it. And even then you'll still be hungry for more!   Shiloh is an amazing book. The three main characters are Shiloh the dog, eleven year old Marty, and Judd Travers. Marty first meets Shiloh when the dog follows him home. The boy falls in love with him and wants to keep him especailly after the cruel way Judd treats his dogs. If you read Shiloh, be prepared for a sad, sweet story. I think that you should read this book because you see what happens when you lie and how things sometimes can turn out. Marty finally goes to Judd and talks to him. He says something that makes him skip home and tell his family the news. It all turns out right. So dog or no dog, I still think you should read this book. That is, if you want to find out what happens to Shiloh. So find a cozy chair and let yourself drift into the world of a young beagle on a great adventure!

Title: The Thief Lord
Author: Cornelia Funke
Review:
This book was amazing, funny, and sad. This book was cool. It is set in Venice, and these two kids, their parents died so they had to live with their Aunt, who they hated, and they didn't originally live in Venice, but their mom had told them about it so they wanted to go there. They met a band of streets kids, with a leader called Thief Lord. He stole the loot, and they sold it so they didn't live entirely on stealing. It's awsome, and the Thief Lord has a secret that adds a huge twist.

Title: The Thieves of Ostia: a Roman Mystery
Author: Caroline Lawrence
Review:
This is the first book in the wonderful Roman Mysteries series. I thought it was amazing, action-packed, funny, and full of facts about Roman life during A.D 79. Meet ten-year-old Flavia Gemina, daughter of a sea captain, Jonathan ben Mordecia, a Jewish boy, Nubia, Flavia recently-bought personal slave girl, and an eight-year-old mute begger boy named Lupus. Together, these four friends try to solve the mystery of who has been killing all the dogs in the Roman port Ostia. This is a crackling good mystery for those who love mysteries set during Roman times with tons of good twists and turns.

Title: Tricia's Got T-R-O-U-B-L-E
Author: Elaine L. Shulte
Review:
This book is the fourth book to the Twelve Candles Club series. I thought this book was a little sad and funny. Tricia's dad leaves her family and starts dating someone else. But he breaks up with the other girl when Tricia and her three friends prove that she's a thief. I thought it kind of funny when Tricia goes to try out for a play and she finds out that the play has been changed.

Title: Tuck Everlasting
Author: Natalie Babbitt
Review:
This book was amazing and sad. Tuck Everlasting is a great book about a spring that gives the water of life. (Well not exactly but I don't want to spoil it.) Maybe not the greatest choice for younger kids, the ending is kind of sad, but a great book by a great author who has a knack for bad endings.

Title: The Vile Village
Author: Lemony Snicket.
Review:
I thought this seventh A Series of Unfortunate Events book was action-packed, funny, and brainy. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire go live in the village of V.F.D., where the whole village acts as their guardian as part of the new program "It takes a village to raise a child." There, the three orphans are forced to do all the village chores, whilst having to obey every stupid rule. Through the book they encounter a hidden message in secretly sent poems, V.F.D. crows, the Council of Elders, a false accusation of murder, a sinister villian, and many other unfortunate events. This book will leave you crying nonstop in the end.

Title: The Whipping Boy
Author: Sid Fleischman
Review:
We thougt this book was great because when Cutwater and Hold-your-Nose-Billy,are scared, and when Prince Brat(Horace) and Jemmy escape and get freedom. The Whipping Boy is about Prince Brat who loves to play tricks on people . His whipping boy jemmy, gets in trouble for Prince Brats actions. Then they decide to run away, and get cought by Hold-Your-Nose-Billy. Then Hold- Yor- Nose Billy, and Cutwater get stuck on convict Island. Do they die or do they live? We recommend this book for kids who are 10-12. Kids who like books that have different accense that are from th 7000's in England. They will go crazzy over this book !!!!

Title: Who Was Sacajawea
Author: Dennis and Judith Fradin
Review:
I thought the book was very good. I thought Lewis and Clark were very smart. Sacagawea must have been a strong woman. She went through a lot of hardships. William Clark was born in Carolina in 1770 and died in 1838. Meriweather Lewis was born in 1774 and died in 1809. I think you should read this book because you can learn a lot from it.

Title: The Wide Window
Author: Lemony Snicket
Review:
This book was action packed, funny, silly, brainy, and weird. This unfortunate book is the third book in the Series of Unfortunate Events. Once again Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire go live with another distant relative and they find that they have been followed by the wicked Count Olaf. Along their unfortunate adventure, unfortunate events plague them left and right. I thought that this book was action packed, silly in parts, quite funny, brainy, and a little weird. Those that love A Series of Unfortunate Events will love this third book to the unfortunately wonderful saga of the three Bauelaire orphans.
