Being the gateway to volcano country, Packwood get numerous tourists all year long. From July to the first part of October we see some very hardy hikers who are "doing" the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Packwood is one of the few areas that the hikers can get restocked in the last 350+ miles of the PCT before the Canadian border. This year we seemed to have a few more intrepid hikers than in previous years. The library is their connection to the world outside the PCT. Staff received many thank you’s and compliments on the facilities, our friendliness, and our willingness to accommodate the hikers that often came in groups of three or more as they came down from White Pass to Packwood.
