All the warm dry weather in September and the first part of October, was responsible for a couple of fires on the Cowlitz Valley district of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. One of those fires, the South Point Fire, was only 10 miles southwest of Packwood. While Packwood was in no danger. The library became the center of information for fire updates. The Forest Service would either drop off updates to us or we would print the updates off their website. We received lots of inquiries about the updates, and were able to answer them with the most updated information. Many of our patrons were concerned that the fire could move toward Packwood, and were very relieved to get accurate information. They thanked us for keeping up on the reports and being able to give them the answers that they were seeking.
