As we were preparing to close one day, a woman came in with a CD of photos asking if she could use a computer to look at the photos. We informed her that the computers were shut down as we were closing in a few minutes. She explained that her sister was dying and the photos were of her sister’s newborn grandchild living on the East Coast. We were familiar with the dying sister as she and her mother are library patrons. We put the CD into a staff computer and printed out full page color photos to take back to the dying sister. She died a few days later. We received a thank you note from the mother of the deceased thanking us profusely for taking the time to print the photos instead of turning them away. It was a small comfort during a very difficult time.
