I started out the day opening the meeting room at 10:00 am (The library doesn’t actually open until 11:00) for a free showing of the Lorax using our new projector purchased by Timberland. I next helped a patron print a time sensitive document she needed to get a job from her email account which sounds straight forward enough only it wouldn’t download from her Gmail account so I had her forward it to her hotmail account and then it opened just fine. A patron then called about finding some cake recipes for her. Next I helped a patron find a resume book. She said she was not happy with the look of her resume so I asked her if she knew about the resume templates on our computers. She said she did not. She had used up her hour of computer time for the day so I added more time on her card. Next a couple came in who were having trouble getting a downloaded book from Timberland onto their Nook so I helped them do that. Another couple came in a little while later looking for the address of his father in Elma from 1945. We don’t have the Polk city directory’s going that far back (ours only go back to 1998) but Aberdeen does (going back to 1902) so I called Aberdeen and Jinny Burns found the answer our patron was looking for in short order. This last interaction demonstrates the value of being part of a large library system. Thanks Jinny!
