A patron came into the library requesting to look at “Popular Mechanics”, “Mechanix Illustrated”, and “Popular Science” periodical issues from the 1960’s and 1970’s hoping to find a specific article about how to build a kayak that also contained blueprints. Bob, Jinny, and I were helping the patron by bringing him the issues he requested. Jinny and I said that the Readers’ Guides would really help the patron find what he needed easier when Bob pointed out to us, “newbies”, that we in fact did have a set. The patron was willing to go through the set himself and found the exact article he was looking for in a magazine he did not expect to find it in, “Sunset”. Jinny offered to enlarge the blueprints on the copying machine for him and provided additional books about kayak building which the patron also checked out. The patron left very happy and satisfied.
