Discovery Search upgrade - August 22, 2011
The Discovery Search access to the library catalog is being upgraded and will be unavailable on Monday, August 22. The new Discovery Search has:
- a new search engine with improved "relevance" searching;
- integration of My Account and account login so you don't have to login each time you place a hold and you can see your checkouts, holds, and fines lists and renew checkouts and edit/cancel holds;
- Advanced Searching so you can search by author, title, and other specific searches;
- integration of My Lists.
New Library Catalog - May 13, 2010
See the Library Catalog FAQ
TRL installed a major upgrade to the library catalog system on May 13. The library system conversion required months of preparation and ten days to transfer the data to the new system and index it. The new system provides the online public catalog for patrons, as well as the software to manage the database of more than 1.6 million copies of more than 500,000 titles owned by the TRL.
We thank you for your emails with comments, suggestions and questions about the new system. We also appreciate your patience as we continue to make improvements.
There are two ways for patrons to search the library catalog.
Catalog Search or
Power SearchThis is the "traditional" library catalog. Although it looks quite different from the old catalog, it has many of the same features. You can login into your account to place or cancel holds, review your checkouts, renew items and add items to your My Lists. You can search the catalog in a number different ways - by keywords or browse - and you can limit searches by format, material type, location and other features. Checkouts, holds, due dates, fines, and My Lists were transferred from the old system.
Discovery Search Discovery Search is a "non-traditional" library catalog search. It has a single, simple search with a "Did You Mean?" feature which checks your search words and suggests alternatives for possible misspellings. Search results display with "facets" which are all the Authors, Dates, Subjects, Locations, etc. associated with your search results. It is easy to limit a search by selecting facets. It is integrated with the "traditional" catalog so that you can place holds but you will need to enter your barcode every time you place a hold. My Lists are not yet integrated with the Discovery Search.
We encourage you to try both searches to see which best meets your needs. If you have questions, comments or suggestions, please talk to staff in your local library or contact our Ask A Librarian service or send an email to comments@trlib.org.
